The Trundholm sun chariot was found in 1902 in the Trundholm bog at Sjælland, Denmark. In order to celebrate the anniversary of the finding, and to provide Trundholm with a replica of the chariot to be used in childrens history classes, a cooperative project was initiated between craftsmen from different European countries who reconstructed and cast the different parts of the chariot. This was made during the summer 2002, and the parts were assembled at an anniversary festival in Denmark in September 2002.

From Fine Arts
The Dumbarton Oaks Byzantine Collection is one of the finest collection s of artifacts from the Byzantine Empire. Spanning the imperial, ecclesiast ical, and secular realms, the collection comprises more than twelve hundred objects from the fourth to the fifteenth centuries. Among the most important objects are treasures of gold, silver, and bronze vessels used for the celebratio n of the Eucharist. Other outstandin g objects are late Roman and Byzantine jewelry, cloisonne enamels, glass and glyptics, ivory icons, and illuminate d manuscript s. The collection 's emphasis on objects of precious materials underscore s the conception of Byzantine art as luxury art. Neverthele ss, many of these objects - plates, boxes, belts, lamps, and even jewelry - had a practical function in Byzantine life.

From Metalwork » Jewelry & Jewelrymaking
For the historically inspired jeweler or researcher of chain making techniques. Jewelry and functional chain discussions are welcome. There are many of us out there working alone to research, document and perfect the art of decorative and functional chain making. This is the place to meet other chain makers to discuss our projects and learn from one another. This is NOT a discussion group for chain-mail in any form as there are other egroups devoted to that subject. Reenactors and recreationists welcome.
