Dress & Textile Studies

The scientific mission of the Danish National Research Foundation's Centre for Textile Research is to promote, expand and consolidate textile research in the academic world.

The Costume Society of America advances the global understanding of all aspects of dress and appearance. We work to stimulate scholarship and encourage study in the rich and diverse field of costume.

Historical weapons and clothing.

Provides an international forum for the exchange and dissemination of information about textiles worldwide, from artistic, cultural, economic, historic, political, social, and technical perspectives.

Aims to encourage access to costume history.

The Medieval Dress and Textile Society was founded in 1991 to bring together those with a serious interest in the subject. Historians of dress and textiles already have their own channels of communication through a number of specific groups but their studies now range widely in many fields: art and economic history, metropolitan and industrial studies, politics, archaeology, medieval literature, arms and armour, or women's history, for instance. At the same time a far greater interest in many aspects of the subject - style and status, sumptuary legislation, patronage, industrial practices, domestic furnishings - is being demonstrated by historians, and conservators.

The Fund's field of interest covers the study of the history of textiles in all their aspects -- embracing the economic and social history of textiles, their technological development, design and conservation, as well as the history of dress, and other uses of textiles. The activities of the Fund fall into three main categories: sponsoring publications (including the journal Textile History, and the book series Pasold Studies in Textile History), organizing conferences, and awarding grants for research.
