The brooch consists of an almost complete hoop passed through the ball-shape d head of a long pin. The terminals of the hoop and the pin head are both hollow-cas t balls that have been filed and punched on the front to give them their thistle flower appearance . A six petal design has been lightly incised onto the back of the terminals and pin head.

Glass beads and necklaces were an important item of wealth and display in the Viking Age.
